Ten Places to Visit in Adelaide Australia

The city of Adelaide is well known as the wine capitol of the world and also fifth largest city in the world. Adelaide is also the capital city of South Australia. The city was named in honor of Adelaide of Saxe-Meiningen the queen consort to King William IV and was founded by Colonel William Light in 1836 as planned capital for a freely settled British province in Australia. There are a lot to enjoy in the city like stylish architectures, boutique shopping, sandy swimming beaches, fabulous arts museum and events, bustling nightlife, lot of good restaurants, and some of Australia's best café strips.

1. Hahndorf – This place is a German settlement that is just a short drive up the freeway. The attractions in Hahndorf include a chocolate factory, the Beerenberg Strawberry Farm and parks and many small stores selling all sorts of products.

2. Adelaide Hills – Adelaide Hills has a breathtaking view of the Adelaide plains, Adelaide metropolitan area, Glenelg and some of the surrounding areas. The summit is not accessible by vehicle between late evening and early morning hours, however the lookout is still accessible by foot.

3. Montefiore Hill – Montefiore Hill is just located in North Adelaide and provides a beautiful view of the city, especially at night.

4. Adelaide Zoo (Adelaide and Monarto Zoo) – The zoo is open daily 09:30-17:00). A good place to visit if you want to see Australia’s endemic animals such as Kangaroos and Koalas and more. This zoo also houses a giant panda bear and the only place where you can see a panda in Australia.

5. Warrawong Wildlife Sanctuary – This place is a privately run wildlife sanctuary. It offers unguided day, and guided day and night tours for tourists. A good place to visit if you want to see some Australian animals, such as the Platypus, Tree Kangaroo, Quoll, Bettong, Potoroo, Pademelon, Bandicoot, Bilby and Possums.

6. Morialta Conservation Park – This park is located 10 km north-east of the CBD, the place contains numerous walking trails of different levels of difficulty, including trails that pass by three major waterfalls, and provide a gorgeous panoramic views over Adelaide itself. You can also find a rock climbing area within Morialta Conservation Park.

7. Elder Park & Torrens River – This park is just located in the north of the city centre. The place is a serene, beautiful and clean park and a nice place to take a walk along the Torrens River and see its pretty bridges and swans.

8. West Beach – The place is ideal for family walks and swimming. The beach is also close to both Glenelg and Henley Beach.

9. The Adelaide Casino - The Casino is South Australia's only licensed Casino. Aside from gaming, it also has three restaurants, and bars, including the LOCO nightclub and Grandstand sports bar.

10. The Bicentennial Conservatory – The entrance is free and it is a worthwhile visit, the place simulates a tropical rainforest with mist falling from the roof. A good place to visit.
